Sydney vu du ciel

Et si on prenait un peu de hauteur aujourd’hui ? Une nouvelle ville, on la fait sienne en arpentant ses rues, en découvrant ses quartiers, en testant ses restaurants, en visitant ses musées, en allant à la plage… Mais qu’en est-il de la vue d’ensemble ? A quoi ressemble ta ville si tu prends de l’altitude ?

Sydney from the Sky! Why don’t we go to higher ground today? One makes a new city its own striding along its streets, discovering its neighbourhoods, trying its restaurants, visiting its museums, going to the beach… What about the bigger picture? What does your city look like if you gain altitude?

J’ai testé le tour en hélicoptère au dessus de la ville de Sydney : une expérience hors du commun pour cœur bien accroché. Au départ de l’aéroport de Sydney, la balade va durer 20 minutes et faire une boucle au dessus de la ville. On a eu carrément de la chance : le temps était superbe et faisait briller la mer.

C’est à bord de ce petit hélico rouge tout mimi pour 4 personnes (avec des portes ultra fines et simple loquet pour la fermeture) qu’on s’envole, sensations fortes garanties.

I tested a helicopter tour above Sydney city: a truly stupendous experience for strong stomachs. Departing from Sydney airport, the tour is a 20 minutes long circle above the city. We were really lucky as the weather was amazing and the sea shining. We’ll be flying aboard this cute small red helicopter for 4 people (with ultra thin doors and a too simple lock). Better hold on tight!

L’occasion de se rendre compte d’en haut de l’étendue de la ville et d’évaluer la taille de ce port de Sydney considéré (à raison !) un des plus beaux ports naturels au monde. 19 kms de long sur une étendue de 55km² et une côte si découpée qu’on ne sait plus trop faire la différence entre îlots et baies, north shore et south shore.

It’s the occasion to realise the vast expanse of the city from above and to assess Sydney Harbour’s size considered (within reasons!) to be one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world.19kms long with an area of 55 km² and such an indented coastline that you’re never too sure what’s an islet or a bay, north shore or south shore.

Les tours du CBD ne paraissent plus si grandes vues d’en haut. On aperçoit au loin Botany Bay et l’aéroport.

The View, celle là même qu’on attendait, la vraie carte postale de Sydney. Sydney Harbour Bridge et Sydney Opera House, la City sur la gauche, North Shore à droite, l’étendue de la ville et les somptueuses Blue Moutains en toile de fond. Une vue à se demander si on rêve tellement c’est beau. Et d’en haut, si calme et harmonieuse.

The View, the one we were waiting for, Sydney’s real postcard. Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, the City to the left, North Shore to the right, the vastness of the city and somptuous Blue Mountains as a backdrop. Such a beautiful view you wonder if you’re dreaming. And from there, it’s so peaceful and harmonious.

Plus on s’éloigne, plus on se dit que c’est vraiment vraiment grand. Pour te donner une idée, Greater Sydney couvre une superficie de 1,687 km² soit 10 fois Toulouse et même un peu plus que Greater London.

The more you move away, the more you see how big, really big the city is. To give you an idea, Greater Sydney covers an area of 1,687 km² which is 10 times the city of Toulouse et even slightly more than Greater London.

L’immense plage de Manly et les Northern Beaches, comme jusqu’à l’infini.

North Head, l’entrée de Port Jackson, qui ouvre la voie de la mer de Tasmanie avant de prendre la direction des Southern Beaches.

70 plages, côté port ou côté océan, ça en fait des opportunités pour se baigner. Auncune n’est aussi célèbre que Bondi Beach, mondialement connue pour ses surfeurs et lifesavers.

70 harbour and ocean beaches give you plenty of opportunity to swim. None is as famous as Bondi Beach though, knwon worldwide for its surfers and lifesavers.
